Ms. Ambai, who was born C.S. Lakshmi in Coimbatore, got the Sahitya Akademi award in 2021 for her short story collection Sivappu Kazhutthudan Oru Patchaiparavai.

Ambai, a Tamil writer, has been chosen for the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award, which honours and celebrates persistent and extraordinary contributions to writing and literature in India.

"I learned about the honour. "However, I am unaware of the specifics of the award," Ms. Ambai told The Hindu.

Anita Desai, Mark Tully, Amitav Gosh, Ruskin Bond, and Girish Karnad are among the previous recipients.

Ambai, a feminist writer who questioned gender stereotypes, was born C.S. Lakshmi in Coimbatore and won the Sahitya Akademi award in 2021 for her short story collection Sivappu Kazhutthudan Oru Patchaiparavai. She earned a postgraduate degree in history from Madras Christian College and a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She currently resides in Mumbai.

Her debut short story collection, Sirakukal Muriyum, was released in 1976, when she was still in her teens. She limited herself to exclusively writing short stories.
